Phantom Blade Zero Bosses: Preparation and Key Encounters

The Gold-Masked One in a Phantom Blade Zero pillar trial

Prepare for a boss by checking your weapon, upgrades, defensive responses and a short punish you can finish safely. Peng Meng teaches you to respect the end of a heavy sequence; the first Gold-Masked One tests precise defensive openings. Some encounters also sit inside longer Tales, so winning a battle and completing its associated quest are separate milestones. Start with the fight in front of you, then check its quest follow-up before leaving the region. [1] [2]

Preparation that carries across encounters

Use a familiar moveset for the first attempts. Check its upgrade level, equip the tool you intend to use and identify the attack that can fit into a brief opening. During the fight, distinguish three causes of damage: a mistimed defense, Sha-Chi exhausted by guarding, and an attack that leaves you committed too long. Each cause suggests a different correction. [3] [4]

Learn one sequence fully before expanding your offense. Watch whether a pause leads into another hit. After a red cue, evade and follow the complete motion before turning back to attack. After a blue cue, focus on the parry timing. An available weapon switch can support Sha-Chi management, but you should know the next weapon’s recovery before committing to a punish. [3] [4]

Peng Meng, the Axemaster

Peng Meng’s heavy combinations punish passive guarding and early retaliation. Keep the whole string in view, preserve room to evade and begin with a short counterattack after his recovery. If a blow catches you every time you step in, spend an attempt identifying the follow-up that precedes it. His opening-region encounter is also part of advancing the Flesh Lily route and the wider Four Fierce Axes investigation. [1] [5]

After the victory, check the outpost and speak with Yu’er. For Four Fierce Axes, continue collecting the case files and complete the later hand-in. The reward chain extends beyond the boss arena, so a missing quest reward is a reason to inspect the journal and collected files, rather than repeat the completed fight. [6] [7]

First Gold-Masked One at a Lóng Pillar

This encounter rewards timing and punishment around defensive openings. Concentrate on learning the attack rhythm, then use the opportunity produced by a successful parry or well-timed dodge. Watch the Sha-Chi break and the room it creates. If your attacks appear ineffective, return attention to the encounter’s defensive opening rather than spending the attempt forcing a long combo. [2] [8]

The first pillar is also part of Bloodline Awakening. Record it as completed and continue the later pillar challenges as your route reaches them. Five challenges connect to the fullest ending route, which makes the pillar fights useful progression beyond their immediate rewards. [9] [10]

The Three-Faced Puppet and Triple Threat

At The Lady’s Rift, the trial against the Aberrant Three-Faced Puppet awards the Three-Headed Doll. Triple Threat then continues later in the campaign. An early journal entry with no immediately useful marker can mean the next stage requires world progression. Once Mirage Estate changes the Forest’s state, return for the later encounter near the Threadbound Great Tree. [7] [11]

Prepare the Blazing Edge, the tempered Sanguine Reach, for that later fight and its full reward. Check the exact tool before entering; possessing an untempered version is a different equipment state. The route connects an opening-region trial, later memories and a changed Forest, so keep the Tale active across those transitions. [7] [12]

After a victory, finish the encounter’s job

Search the arena for an interactable item, read the Tale update and return to the named NPC when required. Hua’s arena, for example, holds the lilies you must pick up separately from the boss reward. These checks prevent the common situation where combat is complete but the intended objective remains open. [5] [13]

For an unfamiliar later boss, carry forward the same observation routine: recognize a complete sequence, choose the defensive response and measure the punish. This page supplies preparation and the named encounters above. A complete boss-by-boss route requires encounter-specific coverage beyond these fights, so retain a save before a major progression warning while planning that route.
